A guide to choosing childrens clothes fabric in our sewing project fabric guide series.

    Children’s Clothes

So you have decided to make some children clothes, great! You have come to the right place.

When choosing the right fabrics for children’s clothes a good place to start is to read the fabric specification and recommendations to ensure it will be suitable.

Remember that children will be children, which means more stains on their clothes. Go for fabrics that are easy to wash like cotton.

Playtime means kid’s clothes get more more wear and tear than adult garments, so durability of fabric should be a priority too.

Natural fibres like cotton and linen are breathable as well as tough and easy to wash.

Once you have the functional aspects of your fabric choice sorted  don’t forget the fun. With children’s clothes you can choose fabrics that let your love for patterns and colors run riot. Daisybuds fabric has a range of interesting colors and patterns that kids will love. Have fun shopping.

I am making a package for xmas for my granddaughter Zoey she loves to sew: and got a pattern for simple short and top for summer. No sleeve on top and elastic waist. Size 7 pattern.
I am thinking plain fabric for short and top
Print fabric for variety girl age 7
what items will she need like elastic for waist of shorts and for finishing the arms of the top without sleeves????
Can you direct me to a website purchase fabric and give list of what I would need for elastic for waist.
I like mid to high end clothing/fabric.
      Thank you for any advise.
